Saint Joseph's University is a proud member of the community and works to promote good housing in our neighborhoods. The majority of students attending Saint Joseph's University live on campus or in supervised residential settings. Some students live in reputable area apartment complexes. Still others lease rooms in homes.
Property owners wishing to lease one or more rooms to students may list their units with the Saint Joseph's University Office of Off- Campus Housing. Saint Joseph's University does not certify whether single-family and multi-family units are suitable for lease. For that reason, students are strongly urged to exercise good judgement when entering into rental agreements.
Students, owners of rental properties and community members can benefit from information contained in a publication issued by the City of Philadelphia's Department of Licenses and Inspections. Called "Partners for Good Housing," it outlines the responsibilities of owners, tenants, and landlords for maintaining houses and apartments in a safe and clean condition. In particular, "Partners for Good Housing" describes the City of Philadelphia's rules and regulations regarding rental licenses, basic equipment obligations, clean and safe standards, construction and occupancy code enforcement's, special neighborhood problems and how to file a complaint or appeal.
Adherence to the guidelines established in "Partners for Good Housing" will help ensure a good quality of life for students, landlords, and members of the community.
