Housing Selection Highlights:

What is the difference between the “Housing Lottery” and the “Housing Selection” process?
The best way to make sense of these terms and processes is to consider who participates in each process. The “Housing selection” process is used to describe the completion of a housing agreement, making a housing deposit, and finally selecting an on-campus housing assignment for the following academic year. This process is applicable to the entire current on-campus freshmen population and a randomly selected population of upperclassmen students who have applied for housing through the “housing lottery."  Depending on availability, upperclassmen students may not need to participate in a lottery process, if we have sufficient space to accommodate all interested students.

The “Housing Lottery” is used to describe the process rising juniors and seniors (current sophomores and juniors) apply through for a chance to participate in the “Housing Selection” process. Note: Depending on availability, upperclassmen students may not need to participate in a lottery process, if we have sufficient space to accommodate all interested students.

Why is there a need for two different processes?
Current freshmen students are guaranteed and required to reside on-campus during their sophomore year at Saint Joseph’s University and rising juniors and seniors (current sophomores and juniors) are not guaranteed/required on-campus housing; therefore there are two processes for housing selection unique to each aforementioned class group. For ease of understanding they are described in detail in the links above.
