Mountains Beyond Mountains (MBM)
Welcome to the resource page for teaching Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder. The links on this site are intended for everyone utilizing the book for Fall 2005, both in the classroom and during freshmen orientation.
For an overview of the SJU Reads initiative this year, consult the Deans’ Letter, a joint message from the respective Deans of Arts and Sciences and Haub School of Business.
A number of faculty have already prepared reading and discussion guides for the book, which you may use and revise as you see fit. These are available through the following links. James Boettcher of Philosophy Resource Guide 1 and Terrance Furin of Education Resource Guide 2 led 35 faculty in a discussion of teaching this book. Susan Liebell of Political Science Resource Guide 3 and Paul Aspan of Theology Resource Guide 4 also have prepared discussion protocols for the book.
Susan Liebell also prepared a short history of Haiti, adapted from the American Friends Service Committee and Library of Congress sites, respectively.
The Drexel Library site for SJU Reads comprises a plentiful and invaluable list of resources.
