At the
conclusion of this course, the attendees/students will be able to:

  • Define commonly used terms as they apply to money laundering and terrorist linked investigations.
  • Distinguish between organized crime groups and terrorist cells.
  • Explain various financial vehicles that are utilized to transport illicit monies.
  • Explain the three layers of money laundering.
  • Understand the psychology and philosophy of the Islamic terrorist.
  • Explain off-shore banking techniques and have the ability to locate these institutions.
  • Describe the procedures in conducting a financial investigation.
  • Explain and become familiar with various federal statutes (R.I.C.O., CCE, etc.)
  • Explain the methods used via the Internet by criminals to communicate.
  • Explain the presentation of evidence for a R.I.C.O. indictment.
  • Explain the effect of terrorist groups on society.
  • Describe the techniques used in the investigation of an individual.
  • Describe the techniques used in the investigation of a business.
  • Explain various investment instruments
  • Be exposed to the 2003 Federal First Responder Template for Communities.
  • Explain the use of confidential sources to obtain financial information.
  • Explain and discern business records to locate hidden funds.
  • Explain the utilization of bank accounts to move monies locally and internationally.
  • Explain the methods to obtain public records and their value in an investigation.
  • Be able to collect data and conduct a financial investigation.
  • Understand the intelligence process.
  • Understand the psychology of a terrorist.
  • Explain and comprehend first response issues and techniques for presentation to their respective agencies.
  • Be able to identify terrorist activity in a community.
  • Understand the illegal use of charities to funnel monies to terrorist groups.
