Reggi Grennan, one of the most respected assistants in the women’s game, is in her tenth year as an assistant at St. Joseph’s after serving on Stephanie Gaitley’s staff at the University of Richmond during the 1990-91 season.
At SJU, Grennan, who holds the longest tenure of any women’s assistant coach in Hawk history, has established a reputation as an outstanding recruiter by luring many talented players to Hawk Hill during her previous nine seasons. Her keen eye has been critical to SJU’s success in expanding its recruiting base overseas. At practice, she is in charge of developing the team’s backcourt. Grennan’s ability to teach is evidenced by the consistent success shown by these players.
This past year, she came out of retirement to compete for the Irish National Basketball team at the Four Nation’s Tournament in Wales. Grennan became eligible for the team after acquiring an Irish passport in the fall. Previously, she had served as an assistant coach for the Irish team, which features current Hawk standout Susan Moran.
The all-time assist leader at the University of Arizona when she graduated, Grennan has been able to transfer her court savvy as a player to her role as an assistant coach. The 31-year-old Bergenfield, N.J. native finished her playing career with the Lady Cats as the school’s 5th all-time leading scorer (925 points), 4th all-time rebounder (519 rebounds) and top playmaker (522 assists). While at Arizona, Grennan also received the prestigious “Golden A” award for combined academic and athletic excellence.
