Sharon Manning, who currently stars for the WNBA’s Miami Sol, is in her first year as an assistant at St. Joseph’s. She brings a broad range of professional basketball experience to the Hawk staff. A 6-3 forward, she has spent the last four season’s playing in the WNBA.

Prior to returning to the States, she competed in Europe playing one season in Italy, four seasons in Spain and two seasons in Sweden. While in Europe, she was named to the Italian League All-Star Team in 1996-97 while playing for Osra Thiene and was a Spanish League All-Star in 1995-96 for Halcon Viajes Salamanca.

After seven years abroad, she returned to the U.S. when she was selected by the Charlotte Sting in the second round (10th pick overall) of the 1997 WNBA Draft. She helped the Sting reach the WNBA Semifinals in both 1997 and 1998. While in Charlotte, she grabbed a WNBA single-game record 9 offensive rebounds against the Los Angeles Sparks in 1998. In 1999 Miami selected her with the 14th pick overall in the WNBA expansion draft.

A 1991 graduate of North Carolina State, Manning played under legendary Wolfpack coach Kay Yow. She averaged 12.9 ppg and 7.5 rpg in 122 career games at N.C. State and was named the Most Valuable Player of the 1991 ACC Tournament. In 1990, she was an All-ACC first team selection and was also selected by USA Basketball to play on the prestigious R. William Jones Cup team.

She holds a B.A. in Sociology with a minor in Women's Studies. A native of Emporia, Va., Manning is the middle child in a family of seven children. Her hobbies include listening to music, reading and bowling.
