No water on the sprint courses.

General: This is a somewhat “no frills” event!

There are no facilities at the parking area.
There will be no water or food at the parking area or any of the start/finish locations – please bring your own.
There will be water on the Sunday courses. In addition to a couple of controls, there are two places along a dirt road where there will be water. These are shown on the maps with cup symbols. There will be no water on the sprint courses.
There will be a map at the parking area showing the start/finish locations and where you can warm up in the woods on Sunday and before and between the sprints on Monday.
The Sunday start/finish is about 100m from the parking area.
Clue sheets will be available at registration. They are also on the map.
E-punch download will be in the parking area both days. Please, please don’t forget to download even if you don’t finish your course. It’s the only way we’ll have of knowing who’s still in the woods.
Starts on Sunday will be self-serve with a sign-in sheet. Make sure to clear, check and punch the start unit. Start yourself at least 2 minutes after the last starter on your course. Brown and Green share the same first control so will be combined. Starts are from 10am - noon.
The start/finish for the first sprint on Monday is about 950m south from the parking area. Walk down the road until you see the orienteering sign, then follow the trail to the start. You will pass the finish just before getting to the start and can leave things there (water, warm-up jackets, etc.) if you want.
The start/finish for the second sprint on Monday is about 250m north from the parking area. Walk up the road until you see the start and finish stands. Feel free to leave things there as well.
There are about 60 people signed up for each sprint. This means a lot of people wanting to go out all at about the same time so I’ve decided to use assigned start times. Please try not to miss your start, especially for the first one. Times have been randomly assigned, every 30 seconds, starting at 9am for Sprint #1. The course will close at 10:45am. Starts for the second sprint have been randomly assigned, every 30 seconds, starting at 11am. Start times below.
The e-punch units will be put in the woods in standby mode. They remain in standby mode until someone punches. They are then active for two hours at which time they go back into standby mode. So if you’re the first one to a control Sunday morning, or the first one in two hours, it could be an extra second or two before the unit beeps. (Note that “standby mode” is different than the “asleep mode” of the older units currently being used by USOF which can take up to 10 seconds to recognize a punch. It really is only an extra second or two at most.) We’ll pre-run the sprints to get the units active, but won’t have the time or manpower to get to all (any?) of the controls on the Sunday courses. Sorry.

Course Notes:

There is a small section of a trail between two ponds that is out of bounds, and marked as such on the map. This affects only the red and blue courses. Please stay out of this area.

There is a control, #48 – 3^rd control on Red, 18^th on Blue - that the course setter says might best be described as “somewhere in the forest” as opposed to the shallow saddle shown on the clue sheet. But he swears the flag is in the center of the circle and that nearby features should lead you right in ….

And at control #40 – 7^th control on Red, 10^th control on Blue - there is a nearby unmapped boulder slightly larger than the one the control is hung on ….

Controls will be hung high!
