Final ExamYou should expect 50 points from each of the three parts of the class. You should study from the exam, quizzes, class notes, and homework problems. It is not enough to be able to follow a solution. You need to be able to perform it yourself.

and I will be tutoring in Science 301 9-11 on Friday. There is all day math tutoring that day, though it tends to be VERY busy.

Quiz for November 26, 2001Today we talked about exponential growth and formulas for compounded interest. For the quiz on Thursday you should be able to handle most any type of compound interest problem except for the one where you are continually making additional deposits.
Exam on December 6
We will have an exam on the 6th that will cover chapters 10, 15, and part of chapter 3.

No class on Nov. 15thI will be defending my thesis in Iowa that day, and we will not have class then, but there will be a project due on the following Monday before Thanksgiving.

Class on Nov. 1 and Nov. 5On Nov. 1, we introduced probability and counting. We are starting chapter 15 and will spend two more classes on this section.
You need to understand the difference between permutations and combinations and some of the other uses of the multiplication rule.
Today, we will discuss probabilities for events that are equally likely and probabilities for events not equally likely. We will also discuss some new probability issues related to cards.
I will hand out a project in class next Thursday.

Quiz for October 18, 2001Today we finished up chapter 6 by discussing the Repetitive Nearest Neighbor Algorithm and the Cheapest Link algorithm. Both classes were lucky and were had their considerable knowledge quizzed today. We will begin Chapter 7 next time and will have an exam a week from Monday, October 29. In chap. 7 we will discuss trees and minimum spanning trees, but not Steiner Points.
For practice problems, you should do Chap. 6/1-11/odd, 17, 19, 23, 29, 37, 41
