Up: Designing a Community site
- You will need to create a weblog on your account at
http://www.sju.edu/~yourID/blogger.html using blogger.com. You
may use a basic template that is provided, though if you decide to
jazz it up that is OK. You will want to FTP it to the polaris server.
You can use a custom layout or use a default. You can always change
it by editing the template.
- To get you started with things to write on.
- Summarize two articles from the New Architect or Web Techniques
I'm giving to you.
- Describe the idea or technology behind the article.
- Explain what sort of applications this would be appropriate or a
concern for. Imagine that you were a software engineer for a website
and needed to evaluate whether this article applied to you.
Next, read this article Top Ten Mistakes in Web
Design
- For five of the ten mistakes, find a different website that
violates it.
- Link to this website or webpage and describe how it violates the
mistake and what might be done to fix it. Business sites are
notoriously bad.
- Find a different website that violates each of the ten mistakes.
- Link to this website or webpage and describe how it violates the
mistake.
Find a technology-related weblog not listed above. Link to it and
summarize what the author works on and what sort of issues interest
them.
