First Exam Review. The first exam is Friday, February 14

You will not need a special calculator, one able to do basic arithmetric will be sufficient. Any calculator capable of doing symbolic differentiation will not be allowed (for example the TI-89 and above). You will not have any notes or formulas available to you. Here is a summary of topics covered in the first part of the course. There may be other topics not listed here. You are responsible for all material covered in class and on homework.

1. Section 6.1 Limits. The main techniques: tables, substitution, and simplify and substitute.

2. Section 6.2 Definition of the derivative. You should expect one problem where you will need to use the definition of the derivative.

3. Section 6.3 Differentiation rules. Power rule, sum and difference, etc. You should expect quite a few of these. Perhaps one question on marginal cost.

4. Section 6.4 Product and quotient rules. Definitely at least one each of these.

The exam is not yet completed, but I anticipate the test looking very similar to the homework problems.
