Program Description

PACMACS, PAthways to Careers in Mathematics and Computer Science, is a program sponsored by the Departments of Mathematics and Computer Science at Saint Joseph's University.  The program offers Junior and Senior level students from Philadelphia high schools the oppotunity to earn college credit by enrolling in either a mathematics or computer science course during the fall and spring semesters.  The program includes workshops to improve learning skills and information sessions about the college admissions and financial aid processes.  The PACMACS program offers an excellent introduction to the rigor and discipline that is required for college success.  The program aims to (1) prepare students for success in college, (2) provide students with skills in mathematics and computer science, and (3) encourage students to become mathematics/computer science professionals. All participants in the program receive full tuition, textbooks, and if needed, tokens for public transportation.

Students interested in participating in the PACMACS program must apply.  Applications are accepted during the fall semester of each academic year.  Only those students that submit a completed application packet will be considered for the program.  A completed application packet consists of an application, an essay, a teacher recommendation, and high school transcripts.  A program brochure and application materials can be obtained by clicking on the following links: Brochure, Application, Recommendation Form.
