Dr. H. David Chen has been teaching since 1979.  He earned a M.A. and a Ph.D. in Psychology from American University in Washington, DC.  In the early 1980's, he held the following positions:  Research Psychologist at the National Institute of Mental Health, Research Fellow at the U.S. Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences, Assistant Professor at Hunter College, City University of New York, and Guest Investigator at Rockefeller University. 

Since the late 1980's, Dr. Chen held various leadership positions at major pharmaceutical companies including Wyeth (Pfizer), Johnson & Johnson, Cephalon (Teva), and Bristol-Myers Squibb.  While working in the private sector during the past 25 years, Dr. Chen has been an adjunct faculty teaching statistics, research methods, counseling, educational, social, and abnormal, women's psychology, marketing/marketing research, decision analytics, and leadership courses at Widener University, Rosemont College.  He is currently a visiting professor in Decision & System Science, Erivan K. Haub School of Business at Saint Joseph's University.

CEPHALON INC (TEVA), Frazer, PA, Senior Director, Marketing Services, Managed a group of Managers and Analysts.  Liaisoned with World Wide Product Planning, Business Development and Marketing/Sales. Established and implemented marketing research programs to ensure the successful introduction of new products and maintained competitive edge in the market place. Established post-launch research program to provide relevant feedback to ensure continued growth.  Conducted market research for life-cycle management of PROVIGIL to prepare for NUVIGIL’s launch (successor compound to PROVIGIL). Directed pre-launch research to support the DTC pilot programs to support Go-No-Go decisions.  The Management accepted the recommendation to launch the DTC Ad campaign in Feb 2008. Monitored research that supports the Takeda co-promote venture and provided sales force improvement recommendations.  Sales forces’ realignment was initiated.  Initiated and directed the launch programs for FENTORA, VIVITROL and Oncology products (Treanda for CLL and NHL) to provide feedback for post launch programs improvement.  FENTORA’s launch exceeded expectation by 50%. stablished business intelligence reporting process at Cephalon providing SR Management and Marketing Teams with up-to-date analytics to maintain competitive edge.

JOHNSON & JOHNSON FAMILY OF COMPANIES, ORTHO-McNEIL NEUROLOGICS Titusville, NJ., Director, Market Research (Topamax, Razadyne, and J&J Healthcare Systems)   Provided strategic and market planning support for a newly-formed business.  Worked closely with Marketing and Sales to establish and monitor market research studies.  Initiated and directed several large scale quantitative physician and consumer segmentation projects to support marketing strategies and sales territory realignment process.  Utilized consumer segmentation research to support the Topamax DTC programs.  The Migraine DTC Campaign  increased new patient flow to physician’s office.  Provided research consulting support to J&J Healthcare Systems on the impact of Medicare Bill and Discount Cards for uninsured and made improvement to consumers communication strategy to increase patient enrollment.

JANSSEN PHARMACEUTICA INC.  Titusville, NJ., Senior Director, Market Research - GI and Mycology Franchises and Strategic Customer Groups.  Managed a group of 4 managers and analysts.  Key liaison with New Products Marketing, Global Business Development and Marketing and Sales.  Introduced, established and maintained market research programs; provided market intelligence support for MCO/LTC Groups.  Research budget: $2 million (primary research only). Created and directed the launch marketing research program for ACIPHEX, a proton pump inhibitor.  Aciphex achieved the $1 billion mark in 24 months. Conducted market research to reposition Propulsid, a promotility agent that compliments Aciphex’s marketing strategies.  Crafted pre-launch research program to support the introduction of new products (constipation, POI, IBD, etc.)  

STRATEGIC MARKETING CORPORATION,  Bala Cynwyd, PA   Senior Research Director, Managed multi-national strategic market research projects for global pharmaceutical clients supporting their product marketing strategies/tactics and product life-cycle management.

WYETH-AYERST PHARMACEUTICALS (PFIZER), St. David’s, PA, Director, International Marketing Research.  Managed a group of eight analysts and provided strategic and market planning support for $3.4 billion international business.  Research budget:  $1.4 million (not including primary research).   Initiated the launch marketing research for Oral contraceptives in the Japanese and Chinese markets. Conducted market research for Efexor, an antidepressant, in Hong Kong.  Designed research program to support the marketing of Tazocin (anti-infective) in China.  Conducted pre-launch research program to support the introduction of Tasosartan, an A-II anti-hypertensive, in Europe.

Manager, Marketing Research-Women’s Healthcare Group. Managed staff of five analysts; provided business planning support to direct business strategies and tactics ($1.2 billion business).  Re-directed Premarin business focus in the combination hormone segment; helped Marketing introduce Prempro and Premphase; created additional $250 million market segment.  Assisted with Fosomax co-promotion venture.  Fosomax is now a leading osteoporosis drug.
