What would you do over again from your college experience, if you had the chance?
If I could go back in time and re-do the college experience, I would have explored the city earlier. I went to school in Baltimore and it wasn’t until the end of my sophomore year that I really started to explore Baltimore and take advantage of all the amazing things it has to offer. By the time my senior year rolled around, I felt like I still had so many things to do and see that I didn’t check off the list in time. Don’t be intimated to leave the campus! Take public transportation and immerse yourself in the culture that is going to surround you for the next 4 years.
If you could educate all students on ONE thing about the admissions process, what would it be?
I don’t think I can emphasize enough the importance of visiting your top prospective schools. As the old saying goes, “You can’t judge a book by its cover.” Sure, a campus might look a certain way online or in pictures, but you can get to campus and see it in a whole new light. I truly believe you need to step on campus in order to envision yourself there.
What question do you love to hear from students?
I love when students ask about study abroad. I did a year abroad in England my junior year and then a year abroad in Thailand after I graduated and each experience was amazing. I think it is important for students to experience a different culture sometime in life and what better way than studying abroad? Whether it is a summer session, a semester or a year-long experience, the time you spend in another country will truly change you.
