RE: Updated Guidance for Classrooms and Meetings

The City of Philadelphia Public Health Department has announced that masks will once again be required in public indoor settings, effective April 18. This is based on the city's COVID Response Levels.

As a result of the city's actions, masks will be required in classrooms, labs, and other shared or common spaces beginning April 18. Surgical or KN95-type masks are recommended, while cloth masks should be avoided unless being worn over a surgical mask. Masks may be obtained from the Public Safety Customer Service Center, the Deans’ Offices, the Library and Writing Center.

There are no other restrictions being implemented. Food and beverages will be allowed in classrooms, events will continue as scheduled, and space capacities will remain at normal levels. As a reminder, masks must be worn over both the nose and mouth. In classrooms, they should be removed only briefly to eat or drink and returned to their proper position quickly.

We realize the city's requirements may be frustrating. However, we must take seriously the guidance from local public health authorities. Hopefully, we will be able to return to a mask optional situation as soon as possible, and we look forward to communicating that news to you. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Enjoy the Easter break, and we look forward to the remaining weeks of the semester and the spring weather ahead.
