SJU Celebrates Pope Francis and the World Meeting of Families

The world witnessed history when the 2013 papal conclave announced that the Argentine cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, S.J., had been elected pope. A series of “firsts” can be appended to his name: He chose to honor the servant of the poor, St. Francis of Assisi, by becoming Pope Francis I; he is the first pontiff to come from Latin America; and perhaps most notably, he is the first Jesuit to be called pope.

As the City of Brotherly Love and the World Meeting of Families prepare to welcome His Holiness Pope Francis for his September visit, Philadelphia’s Jesuit University — Saint Joseph’s University — invites you to participate in a series of events organized to honor and celebrate this most remarkable man.
