Details: SJU’s Thanksgiving Dinner Dance brings together students and senior guests for an evening of dancing and traditional Thanksgiving fare. This year’s “Pumpkin Promenade,” the largest in the event’s history is expected to draw over 180 students and 175 seniors.
Members of the community aged 55+ will come from over 20 area senior centers, including Havertown Senior Center, Latches Lane Condominiums, Washington Square West, Wynnefield Residents Association and Germantown Nursing Home. SJU students participate as dance partners and servers. Live music will be provided by the Tim Laushey Orchestra.
The dinner dance is organized by Senior Socializers, a student group, and sponsored by Campus Ministry and the Office of Residence Life. Support is also received from SJU Dining Services. The larger community and local businesses give financial and gift donations.
"It's wonderful that our students, faculty and staff share the many blessings we have as a University with our neighbors. Fellowship can sometimes be an awkward word in an age of Facebook and text messages – but at the Thanksgiving Dinner Dance, it's not- it's a feeling, it's alive, and it makes so many people happy,” says Jason Bartlett, program outreach coordinator for Campus Ministry.
