Graduate Programs Earn Top Rankings

Healthcare and Special Education programs listed among nation's best

PHILADELPHIA (May 23, 2014) – Two Saint Joseph’s University (SJU) online degree programs were recently listed among the top in the United States., an educational resource that ranks the strongest online degree programs, listed SJU’s online Master of Science in Health Administration among the 34 greatest programs in the nation. Additionally, the Master’s in Special Education Program Guide included SJU’s online Master of Science in Special Education program in their list of 20 best online masters in special education programs. ranked SJU’s M.S. in Health Administration as a result of the program’s commitment to providing students with the skills and experience necessary to be effective leaders in the healthcare industry. SJU’s online program was also selected for its knowledgeable faculty members, which include former health care attorneys, Fortune 500 executives, hospital administrators and medical professionals. The online program has two tracks: Health Care Ethics and Informatics, offering broader options for students interested in entering the industry.

“Enrollment in the M.S. in Health Administration program is rapidly growing,” says Louis Horvath, director of Online Health Services. “Ten new sections were recently added for this summer, 17 sections will be added in the fall and 375 students are currently enrolled. This program is unique because it focuses heavily on interaction between students and instructors, despite the fact that classes are held online. All of our faculty members within this program hold advanced degrees in their field, providing students with first-hand experiences and insight.”

The Master’s in Special Education Program Guide highlights affordable, highly accredited graduate programs for the benefit of busy prospective students. The guide compiles information about special education courses, salaries, jobs and career options. SJU’s Master of Science Special Education Online program, which ranked third in the nation, was selected for its tuition cost, high level of student satisfaction and dedication to promoting tolerance, compassion and social justice. A unique addition to the course offerings is an online program for teachers of deaf and hard of hearing students, which is one of only four programs of its kind in the United States. The Special Education Online Program also offers captioning for graduate students with hearing loss, providing equal access to class meeting discussions for all learners.

“This program is led by 32 instructors from a variety of disciplines, ensuring that our online students learn from the best,” says Samuel Slike, D.Ed., director of Special Education Online Programs. “With 310 graduate students currently enrolled, our Special Education online courses are constructed with Pennsylvania Department of Education and national Council for Exceptional Children standards as a guide. This ensures all Special Education online course sections will offer content that is in compliance with our accreditation bodies.”
