PHILADELPHIA (March 29, 2011) — Saint Joseph’s University’s Haub School of Business (HSB) collegiate chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) has been selected as the Silver Chapter Award winner for 2011. Rick Sherman, Ph.D., professor of accounting, was recognized as Beta Gamma Sigma’s 2011 Outstanding Chapter Advisor. The international organization will present Saint Joseph’s with these prestigious awards during its annual conference in New York City on April 28.
BGS is the honor society for AACSB International – the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The mission of the society is to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business and to foster personal and professional excellence among its members.
This is the seventh consecutive year the Haub School chapter has been recognized with either the Gold, Silver or Bronze award. The SJU student chapter competed against 500 collegiate chapters around the globe to earn this distinction. As recipients of the Silver Chapter Award, Saint Joseph’s is eligible to award a $1,250 BGS scholarship to a student member in the 2011-2012 academic year.
“This is an honor that reflects on the entire HSB team — students, faculty, staff and administration,” said HSB Dean Joseph DiAngelo, Ed.D. ’70.
The award-winning chapter will induct 100 new members on Sunday, April 17, during a ceremony in Mandeville Hall’s Wolfington Teletorium at 12:30 p.m.
