While students and faculty customarily look upon the end of the year with stress and frustration due to final examinations and deadlines, the Saint Joseph’s University community is reminded with a slew of spirited holiday events what the season is truly about.

The University Singers Concert was held Thursday, Nov. 29 in the Chapel of Saint Joseph-Michael J. Smith S.J., Memorial, their program heavy with holiday cheer. The Student Voice and Piano Recitals will be held in the Chapel on Sunday and Monday, Dec 9 (2:30 p.m.) and 10 (7 p.m.), respectively.

For those inspired with the gift of giving, the Government and Community Relations and Athletics’ Toys for Tots program is now accepting donations on campus. Bring any new and unwrapped toys to one the collection bins located in Hagan Arena, St. Thomas Hall, or the security office in Barbelin by Saturday, Dec. 15.

Student groups are also volunteering until Dec. 10 to drop off donations made to any of SJU Campus Ministry’s Weekly Service community partners and other organizations in need this season: Inglis House, GESU School, Church of New Hope and Faith, Lankenau Hospital, L.U.C.Y. Outreach, Olivet Baptist Church, Project H.O.M.E, Our Mother of Sorrows Soup Kitchen, Winter Holidays, and Saint Rose of Lima School. To donate, contact an organization to find out what items are requested and where to drop off donations; if you are unable to travel to the organization after Dec. 10, contact Beth Ford in Campus Ministry at beth.ford@sju.edu.

The Student Union Board will be hosting a traditional Holiday Bazaar on campus on Tuesday, Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., in the Campion Banquet Hall. Approximately 25 vendors will be selling items from handcrafted jewelry to cell phone cases.

The University’s annual tree lighting will be held Monday, Dec. 10, at 4:30 p.m., on the patio outside Campion Student Center. Members of the Saint Joseph’s community will gather in the Chapel on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 9 p.m., for the annual Seasonal Celebration Liturgy, with University President C. Kevin Gillespie, S.J., ’72, presiding. A reminder to all students and faculty: there will be no 8 p.m. or 10 p.m. masses celebrated that day.
