Holiday Events Kick Off the Season at SJU
Monday, November 21, 2011
It's that time of year again. While students and faculty prepare for end-of-the-semester exams and projects, visions of sugarplums also dance through their heads. Providing a break from all of the stress, holiday events throughout the campus are plentiful, filling students, faculty and staff with holiday cheer.
'Tis the season to give, as Saint Joseph's holiday events kicked off with a Thanksgiving Turkey Basket drive. Sponsored by the Administrative Staff Council (ASC), baskets full of ingredients for a hearty holiday meal will be donated to Project H.O.M.E. on Tuesday, Nov. 22. If you missed out on donating Thanksgiving items, but are still looking to help out this season, you can participate in Government and Community Relations and Athletics' Toys for Tots program on Wednesday, Nov. 30 in Hagan Arena. Bring your gift of a new, unwrapped toy to SJU's men's basketball game against Drexel University.
To hear to promote holiday cheer, the Voices of Praise Fall Concert and Christmas Caroling will be held on the main campus on Friday, Dec. 2 from 5-7 p.m., while the University Singers Holiday Concert will be held just three days later on Monday, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel of St. Joseph – Michael J. Smith, S.J. Memorial. Later in the month, the Jazz Band will hold a concert in Bluett Theatre on Thursday, Dec. 8 at 8 p.m. The Student Voice Recital and Student Piano Recital will also be held in the Chapel on Monday and Thursday, Dec 12 and 15, respectively.
The Saint Joseph's University community will come together for the Seasonal Celebration Liturgy on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 9 p.m. in the chapel. Although most students will be home for the winter break, if you are on or near campus on Saturday, Dec. 24, SJU will hold its Christmas Eve Liturgy at 8 p.m.
