The Initiative for Family Business & Entrepreneurship (IFBE) will welcome David Lipson, chairman and CEO of MetroCorp, the publisher of Philadelphia Magazine, for its spring lecture in the Family Business Legacy Speaker Series. Lipson will share his experience in a family-run business on Tuesday, May 1 in the Cardinal John P. Foley Campus Center.
“We are delighted to highlight a multigenerational family business that has served the tri-state area for many years,” says Brian Brogan, director of the IFBE. “David, who recently took over MetroCorp after his father’s passing, understands the dynamics of stepping into a family-run organization: the perceived obligation to solidify the family legacy and the desire to blaze his own trail.”
MetroCorp produces Philadelphia Magazine, which covers the city and beyond, extending to Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware and Chester counties, as well as Boston Magazine. Lipson’s grandfather S. Arthur Lipson purchased Philadelphia Magazine, which now includes “best of” features, news and criticism, in 1946. The Lipson family has the reins of the publication for more than 60 years and continues to drive its future.
The IFBE lecture is open to the public and will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a networking event, and Lipson’s lecture and a Q&A at 6:30. Registration is required. Tickets cost $40, but free admission is available for SJU students, faculty and staff, as well as IFBE members.
