Photo and Video: SJU Celebrates 2013 Commencement

On Saturday, May 11, nearly 2,600 students became alumni of Saint Joseph's University as the 162-year-old institution marked another weekend of commencement ceremonies. Jesuit author and historian John W. O'Malley, S.J., was given an honorary degree and spoke at the graduate ceremony and Elisabeth A. Hagen, M.D. ’91 (B.S.), under secretary for food safety for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, received an honorary doctorate and gave an address at the undergraduate ceremony. In addition, Ambroise Dorino Gabriel, S.J., director of Foi et Joie: Haiti, and Rafael García Mora, S.J., the national director of Fe y Alegria: Bolivia, both received honorary degrees at the undergraduate ceremony.

During the undergraduate commencement, Phyllis Anastasio, Ph.D, associate professor of psychology, was recognized with the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching; Richard George, Ph.D. '67, professor of food marketing, received the Tengelmann Distinguished Teaching and Research Award; and John Lord, Ph.D. '71, professor of marketing, was honored with the Faculty Lifetime Service Award.
