Scholarship and the Magis

SJU Hosts Annual AJCU Honors Conference

Friday, February 1, 2013

Saint Joseph’s University and the Honors Program will be hosting the 8th annual conference of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) Honors Programs, Feb. 15 through 17.  Directors and students from Jesuit institutions across the country will meet in the Haub Executive Center of McShain Hall to discuss a wide range of topics, centered around the theme “Scholarship and the Magis.”

Patrick H. Samway, S.J., professor of English, will open the conference with “Flannery O’Connor’s Editors: Helpers or Hinderers?” and Joseph J. Feeney, S.J., will conclude it with “Who was, Who is, Gerard Manley Hopkins?”

“The conference gives us an opportunity to meet with our colleagues across the country, to exchange ideas, and to welcome them to Hawk Hill and to Philadelphia,” says David Sorensen, D.Phil., associate director of the Honors Program and professor of English. “It also gives our students a chance to mingle with their peers from other Jesuit institutions, and to get a sense of the vibrancy and the eclecticism of the broader student community to which they belong.”
