SJU Announces Appointment of Four New Trustees

PHILADELPHIA (July 13, 2010) – Saint Joseph’s University has announced the appointments of four new members to its Board of Trustees: Gerianne Tringali DiPiano ’92 (M.B.A.), Ambassador David F. Girard-diCarlo ’70, John J. Griffin Jr. ’78 and Joseph J. McLaughlin, Jr. ’81. Representing a wide range of expertise in business, education, health care and government, these four new trustees bring a breadth of experience to the board.

DiPianoDiPiano is the founder, president, chief executive officer and chair of the board of directors of FemmePharma Global Healthcare, Inc., a pharmaceutical company with the mission of developing drugs to address women’s health issues. She previously served as director of the University’s pharmaceutical MBA program. She is currently executive vice chair on the Board of Trustees of Drexel University and is also a member of the Corporate Advisory Board of the Society for Gynecologic Investigation and the Editorial Advisory Board of Biotechnology Healthcare, among other advisory board positions. In 2006, she was named a Woman of Distinction by the Philadelphia Business Journal and was recognized by Governor Edward G. Rendell as one of Pennsylvania’s 51 Best Women in Business in 2007.

Girard-dicarloGirard-diCarlo joins the board having achieved successful careers in both law and government. For more than twenty years, he was CEO then chairman of a large professional services firm headquartered in Philadelphia.  Active in politics for more than thirty years, he was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Austria in 2008 by former President George W. Bush. In 2003, Pope John Paul II conferred upon him the Pontifical Honor of Knight of the Order of St. Gregory the Great for his work as chairman of Business Leaders Organized for Catholic Schools (BLOCS). He currently is a member and shareholder of the international law firm Cozen O’Connor, one of the 100 largest law firms in the country.

GriffinGriffin served as the men’s basketball head coach from 1990-95, when he led the Hawks to three Big Five championships and two NIT appearances. He previously completed terms as an assistant coach at Saint Joseph’s and as head coach at Siena University. In addition to his success on the sidelines, Griffin is president and co-founder of Zeke Capital Advisors, LLC, in Berwyn, Pa., an investment firm with approximately $1 billion in assets under advisement. He previously served as a partner at Chartwell Investment Partners and also works as a part-time commentator for NCAA Division 1 basketball broadcasts.

McLaughlinMcLaughlin brings over 25 years of experience in the investment industry and currently serves as chairman and chief executive officer of the Haverford Trust Company. He also holds positions on the Boards of Trustees of Paoli Memorial Hospital Foundation and the Rosemont School of the Holy Child.  He is currently the president of the University’s Accounting Alumni.
