Monday, September 19, 2011

PHILADELPHIA (Sept. 19, 2011) – Saint Joseph’s University’s College of Professional and Liberal Studies (PLS) will welcome 40 Independence Blue Cross (IBC) employees as new students this semester as a part of a new partnership.

The program allows IBC employees to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Professional and Liberal Science with either a concentration in Health Administration or Organizational Development and Leadership. Designed to integrate a spectrum of academic and professional interests, the program synthesizes leadership development, health administration and professional communications in an environment that encourages critical problem-solving.

"My vision for the College of Professional and Liberal Studies at Saint Joseph's is to provide educational services that meet our adult students, not just in the classroom, but also in their real life situations,” says Associate Dean of PLS Patricia Griffin ’81. “This partnership with Independence Blue Cross is offered directly in the workplace and provides a curriculum that can impact their immediate job performance and their potential for professional success.  The progressive corporate thinking of Independence Blue Cross to develop classrooms and bring in targeted educational programs should be applauded."

“Our partnership with Saint Joseph’s University, designed to offer an onsite degree program that will help us accomplish one of our top business priorities – to inspire and develop our associates in achieving both individual and organizational excellence,” says Yvette Bright, IBC executive vice president and chief administrative officer. “In addition, having classes right at our worksite is very convenient and attractive for our associates, many of whom desire higher education and are juggling busy careers and families.”

Classes will be offered at the Independence Blue Cross headquarters at 1901 Market Street, Philadelphia, Pa. To enroll, individuals must be employed by IBC and meet the general admissions requirements for PLS.
