SJU Honors Mahoney, Hazel with Law Alumni Awards

PHILADELPHIA (November 13, 2008) - The Saint Joseph’s University Law Alumni Chapter will present Patricia (McElwee) Mahoney ’76 and the Honorable Frank T. Hazel ’64 with the Sheehan and McClanaghan Awards, respectively, on Wednesday, November 19 at 6:00 p.m. at The Union League of Philadelphia.

A 1976 graduate of Saint Joseph’s, Mahoney will receive the Brother Bartholomew A. Sheehan, S.J. ’27 Award in appreciation for her steadfast loyalty and dedication to Saint Joseph’s University. Consistently active at SJU since graduation, she has held several leadership roles including president of the alumni association; co-chair of the reunion committee for the class of 1976; and president, co-founder, and trustee of the food service alumni chapter.  She is currently chairperson of the SJU Alumni Association’s Council of Presidents.  The food marketing alumna owns Brooks Gift Gallery in Drexel Hill, Pa., and has previously held several marketing and sales positions in the food industry.  She resides in Bryn Mawr, Pa.

In honor of his accomplishments in the field of law, as well as the pride and distinction he has brought to SJU throughout his distinguished career, Judge Hazel, who has served on the Court of Common Pleas in Delaware County since 1981, will be presented the Honorable Francis X. McClanaghan ’27 Award.  The former student body president graduated from Saint Joseph’s in 1964 with a bachelor’s degree in political science and received his law degree from Villanova University in 1967. He was awarded one of eight national Ford Foundation Fellowships following his graduation from Villanova.  The Drexel Hill, Pa. resident’s prestigious career includes two stints as District Attorney of Delaware County and a term as President of the Pennsylvania District Attorney’s Association.  He has also been appointed to numerous committees of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
