Thursday, March 16, 2017

PHILADELPHIA (March 16, 2017) — Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the honor society that recognizes and encourages scholarship among two-year college students, has named Saint Joseph's University to its Excellence in Community College Transfer Honor Roll for the second year in a row. The list identifies the top four-year colleges and universities for creating dynamic pathways to support community college transfer.

Recognition is granted based on engagement, collaboration, impact and achievements related to the transfer of community college students as well as partnerships, support, admissions outreach, scholarships and financial aid, student engagement opportunities and institutional priorities. SJU is one of only 65 schools nationwide to be honored with this distinction.

Saint Joseph's offers transfer students more than 30 degree and certificate opportunities through its Professional and Liberal Studies and Haub Degree Completion programs. These programs provide flexible class schedules, on campus and online course options and personal support from advisors, among other resources, to assist transfer students in achieving their academic goals.

"We are grateful to be selected as a member of PTK's Transfer Honor Roll for a second year in a row," says Elizabeth Gatti, director of transfer and adult admission at SJU. "We've made a conscious effort to build a transfer-friendly admission process for traditional and adult learner students at Saint Joseph's, and this recognition solidifies our commitment."

"Transfer students are vitally important to SJU programs, both on the traditional undergraduate and adult undergraduate levels," adds Janine Guerra '04, director of the Haub Degree Completion program. "There are so many students at our local community colleges who have demonstrated a drive for academic excellence. We're honored to offer them the opportunity to continue to achieve at Saint Joseph's."

SJU and other members of the Honor Roll will receive recognition on Phi Theta Kappa's website and at PTK Catalyst, Phi Theta Kappa's 2017 annual convention in Nashville, Tennessee, April 6-8.

About Phi Theta Kappa: Phi Theta Kappa is the oldest, largest and most prestigious honor society recognizing students pursuing two-year degrees.
