Thanksgiving Dinner Dance Unites Seniors, Students

What: Students will host neighbors from local senior centers during Saint Joseph’s University’s 35th annual Thanksgiving Dinner Dance.

When: Thursday, Nov. 10 5:30 – 8:00 p.m.

Where: Campion Student Center, Banquet Hall Saint Joseph’s University 5600 City Avenue Philadelphia, PA 19131

Details: Nearly 200 SJU students and 200 guests from area senior community centers will come together for a Thanksgiving celebration complete with food and dance. The annual event, organized by the student group the Senior Socializers, features live music by the Tim Laushey Orchestra and SJU a cappella groups 54th & City and the City Belles, as well as traditional Thanksgiving fare. SJU students participate as dance partners and servers.

“Laughter fills the room at this intergenerational event,” says Helen Stewart, campus minister. “Every face, whether student or senior, is smiling. Joy abounds.”

Members of the community aged 55+ will come from more than 30 area senior centers, including West Philadelphia Senior Center, Salvation Army West, The Ivy Residence, The Pavilion, Havertown Senior Center, Latches Lane Condominiums, Washington Square West, Wynnefield Residents Association and Germantown Nursing Home. The SJU community and local businesses provide financial and gift donations to support the event each year.
