21st Annual Patricia Leahy Memorial Lecture Explores Rehab for COVID Survivors

Over 200 faculty, staff, students, alumni, and clinicians attended the 21st Annual Patricia Leahy Memorial Lecture on September 23, 2021. The lecture, held virtually, featured Julie Skrzat, PT, DPT, PhD, CCS, assistant professor in the doctor of physical therapy program at Mary Baldwin University.

Dr. Skrzat presented her talk, entitled “Comprehensive Rehabilitation for the COVID-19 Survivor,” in which she explored the role of physical therapists in helping those who have recovered from COVID-19.

Dr. Skrzat emphasized that, regardless of the severity of the patient’s COVID-19 case, patients may still need physical therapy assistance. She continued by sharing the importance of keeping that in mind when treating a patient who has recovered from COVID-19, as each patient has different reactions and needs.

Dr. Skrzat discussed numerous possible effects that patients may have after they recover, and some of the most common interventions.

After her presentation, Dr. Skrzat took questions, and attendees were put into breakout rooms to discuss and collaborate.
