After moving into the Living and Learning Commons, over 230 new students participated in a weekend full of events and orientation activities. The Welcome Weekend helped them connect with USciences’ campus and their peers from August 26-29, 2021.
Among the events was “Taste of Campus” where students were treated to samples from local vendors, music, games, and a raffle giveaway from USciences dining provider, Sodexo; game nights; and other interactive, team-building events.
Interim President Valerie Weil, MD, and Student Government Association (SGA) President Livia Mario '24 (DrOT) addressed students and their families in a “Family Farewell Toast” complete with sparkling apple cider as families prepared to say their goodbyes to their students and returned home.
The Alumni Association also hosted an event, “Light the Spark,” where students and alumni could meet and form connections. Alumni Association President Tim Bowers '02 (MT), '08 (MPH) addressed students, reminiscing on his time at USciences, shouting out notable alumni, and welcoming students to the University. Bowers assured students that the entire alumni community is available for support and encouraged them to use alumni as a resource.
“We’ve all been in your shoes and we’ve all dealt with what’s coming. I appreciated all the help that was afforded to me as a student.” Bowers shared. “Reach out to the alumni community because we have all been there.”
