Please see the Academic Calendar for withdrawal deadlines.
Prior to submitting an online course withdrawal request, you are required to consult with your advisor.
- After your request is submitted:
- A notification will be sent to your advisor for their approval. (Note that you no longer need to attach evidence of their approval to the form)
- Please notify your professor that you have withdrawn from the course.
- After your advisor's approval is submitted, the Registrar's Office will process your withdrawal. Please check your registration history in the Nest for updates to your course registration.
- If you have questions, please contact Undergraduate Advising Support.
-
- Starting Fall 2024, undergraduate students will only be able to replace courses with grades of C– and below. Undergraduates will no longer be able to replace courses with grades from C to B– as was allowed under the current interim policy.
- For Graduate students, eligibility for Grade Replacement will remain B– or below.
- Both grades appear on the transcript, but only the higher grade is calculated into the GPA.
- Courses in which an academic honesty violation was recorded are ineligible.

If your course elsewhere request is approved:
If this course elsewhere request is approved, you also must meet with your Academic Advisor to confirm if/how this course will apply toward your degree. Course elsewhere approval does not guarantee that it will meet degree requirements. Department Chair approval also is required if you intend to use the course to fulfill a major or minor requirement.
After you successfully complete the course with a C or better grade, please request an official transcript to be sent to the Saint Joseph's University Registrar's Office.

Request a Temporary Separation from SJU Lancaster
What is a Temporary Separation from SJU?
At Saint Joseph’s University there are many ways for students to temporarily separate from the University:
A. Leave of Absence (LOA) (medical or non-medical) - Taking time away from your education for the semester. This request must be submitted before the end of Add/Drop if the student is registered for classes that term.
B. Withdraw from all Classes (medical or non-medical) - Currently enrolled in classes, but unable to complete the semester.
C. Term Away (medical or non-medical) - Undergraduate Day students only. Unable to take classes at SJU during a given semester, but able to continue taking courses at a different institution. REQUIRES approval for courses elsewhere prior to approval of the Term away during the spring or fall semesters.
