Center for Excellence in Practice
Our 20,000 square foot clinical simulation space is designed to engage learners in hyper-realistic healthcare environments.
About our Simulation Center
The Center for Excellence in Practice is the culmination of nearly a decade of planning and collaboration with some of the most forward-thinking experts in simulation education. Designed with the function and feel of any clinical environment, the Center strives to cultivate critical thinking, collaboration and problem-solving by engaging learners in realistic scenarios staged in real-life healthcare environments. Every inch of the Center is deliberately engineered to feel natural and authentic to learners from all facets of healthcare to become adept and competent caregivers for patients.
In the world of health care, circumstances can change in the blink of an eye. When the moment comes to participate in a code blue, identify a heart attack or subdue a violent patient, proper preparation can make all the difference in a successful outcome. Enter the Center for Excellence in Practice: A 40-bed Center with more than 20,000 square feet of immersive, interdisciplinary, hyper-realistic clinical simulation space.

Simulation Learning
Open to current students, Simulation Learning focuses on providing hands-on, immersive learning experiences designed to increase skill performance, competence and critical thinking. Simulation Learning creates practical, realistic environments to provide innovative, learner-centered modalities and techniques to assist faculty in the delivery of active and engaging learning experiences.
The Simulation Learning team collaborates with faculty to support students’ acquisition and refinement of clinical judgment and skills. The goal is to promote safe, knowledgeable and effective care by demonstrating and reinforcing the highest level of performance and readiness. The team coordinates hands-on learning utilizing current pedagogical and technological resources to support the student’s clinical experience. Simulation experiences are created to reinforce both the didactic and clinical course objectives.

At Saint Joseph’s University, nursing students are getting hands-on experience with Oxford Medical Simulation (OMS), a virtual training tool that helps them practice real-world nursing skills in a safe environment.
With OMS, students step into realistic patient care scenarios where they can assess patients, make decisions, and see the results of their actions—just like they would in a real hospital. The best part? They can do it anytime, anywhere, without the pressure of a live clinical setting.
By using this advanced technology, Saint Joseph's is giving nursing students the chance to build confidence, sharpen their critical thinking skills and be better prepared for their future careers—all before they ever set foot on the hospital floor.

How Simulation Scenarios Work
With simulation-based education, you’ll work with students from other programs in realistic scenarios simulations that mirror real-life health care settings. Get up close and personal with authentic medical scenarios that stretch your skills, test your limits and grow your confidence.
