SJU Emergency Cancellation Information

In the event of an official class cancellation, delay to the start of classes or campus closing due to weather, power outage or other emergency, notice can be obtained from the communication systems listed below:

The KYW Storm Center

KYW and its affiliates (KYW 1060AM, KYW-TV Channel 3, CW Philly Channel 57, and CBS3 HD Channel 233) provide up-to-date and official information on SJU class cancellations and delays, as well as campus closings. Below are the SJU identification numbers:

  • Day Programs (Start time up to and including 4:00 p.m.): 216
    Evening (Start time at or after 4:30 p.m.) and Weekend Programs: 2104

KYW Phone Alerts: The KYW Storm Center offers a service that will provide school closing information through a direct message to your phone. You can sign up for this service at http://www.kyw1060.com and select the KYW School Closing link.

KYW Text Alerts: The KYW Storm Center also offers a service that will provide school closing information through text alerts to cell phones, PDAs, and smart phones. You can sign up for this service at http://www.kyw1060.com and select the KYW School Closing link.

 


 

Class Schedule/School Opening Delay & Class Schedule Cancellation/School Closing

 

Day Classes

The University will announce from the following options for Day Classes/Programs: (Note: Classes that begin up to and including 4:00 p.m. are considered day classes, regardless of a student’s designation.)

  • 1-Hour Delay - All classes scheduled to begin before 9am are cancelled. University offices open at 9:00 a.m.
  • 2-Hour Delay - All classes scheduled to begin before 10am are cancelled. University offices open at 10 a.m.
  • Classes Cancelled (All classes are cancelled).
  • University Closed (All classes are cancelled and University offices are closed).

Day Online and Hybrid Classes

Unless there is an on-campus event scheduled for the day of the cancellation or closure, all online course activity will continue during course cancellations and University closures. For specific details, refer to the Course Expectation Form for the specific online course.

 

Evening and Weekend Classes

The University will announce from the following options for Evening and Weekend Classes/Programs: (Note: Classes that begin at or after 4:30 p.m. are considered evening classes, regardless of a student's designation)

  • There are no delays for evening classes.
  • Weekend classes may be delayed:
    • 1-Hour Delay - All classes scheduled to begin before 9 a.m. are cancelled.
    • 2-Hour Delay - All classes scheduled to begin before 10 a.m. are cancelled.
  • Classes Cancelled (All classes are cancelled).
  • University Closed (All classes are cancelled and University offices are closed).

Evening and Weekend Online and Hybrid Courses

Unless there is an on-campus event scheduled for the time of the cancellation or closure, all online course activity will continue during course cancellations and university closures. For specific details, refer to the Course Expectation Form for the specific online course.

 


 

Office & Service Availability During Class Cancellations and Closures

Once classes are cancelled, all buildings will be closed but may be accessible by ID card if you have access rights to the building. Unless specified, the following facilities will remain open during any class cancellation or campus closure:

  • The Campion Center
  • Residence Halls
  • Residence Dining Facilities
  • Recreation Centers
  • The Perch

Post Learning Commons and Francis A. Drexel Library

Unless otherwise specified, the Post Learning Commons and Drexel Library will open according to the same delay policies for the Day Programs. During class cancellations and University closures, please check the Library website for updated hours.

Shuttle Services

University provided shuttle services will continue through course cancellations and campus closures until it is determined that it is no longer safe to proceed. For more information about shuttle service during inclement weather contact Public Safety at 610-660-1111. Announcements of changes to the shuttle service are placed on the SJU Transloc Transportation App
