Caroline Hagan, BBA '16, MBA, has harnessed her financial expertise to make a lasting impact on the Philadelphia community, first by providing free tax counseling as a student volunteer, and now by ensuring funding for projects aimed at enhancing patient care in her role at Temple University Hospital.

Hagan graduated from Saint Joseph’s with a double major in accounting and financial planning.

In her capacity as senior director of financial operations at Temple University Hospital, Hagan leads a team of financial analysts to support the development of annual budgets, long-term projections and financial analyses of new programs and capital equipment priorities.

Collaborating closely with senior leadership and department stakeholders, Hagan helps to ensure that Temple has the necessary funding to continually advance its medical infrastructure while upholding its commitment to providing excellent and affordable healthcare to the community.

“Department leaders often share stories of how a specific piece of equipment significantly enhanced a patient's experience,” says Hagan. “It's fulfilling to know that my team’s efforts contribute directly to our organization's ability to deliver high-quality healthcare services and positively impact the lives of individuals in the Philadelphia community.”

Hagan’s involvement in Saint Joseph’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, an initiative where students help prepare and file tax returns free of charge for qualifying individuals in the surrounding community, helped her gain industry experience as an undergraduate.

"My involvement in the VITA program provided me with a meaningful, tangible example of how a degree in accounting could set me up to do impactful work to help the Philadelphia community after graduation," says Hagan, whose foundation of teamwork and service instilled at Saint Joseph's continues to shape the approach to her current role. “My time on the women’s lacrosse team was also formative in teaching me how to work as an effective team member to accomplish goals.”

Hagan landed a position with KPMG as an intern during her junior year that extended through two years post graduation, at which time she also completed her CPA. During her time with KPMG, she was able to apply her accounting and finance skills across a variety of industries. In doing so, she found interest in the healthcare industry, leading her to her current role where she hopes to continue impacting her community.

“In an ever-evolving healthcare landscape, I want to contribute to a more resilient and equitable healthcare future,” says Hagan. “By fostering a culture of financial responsibility and sustainability, my goal is to be a positive influence, guiding the industry toward better patient outcomes, cost effectiveness and greater inclusivity.”
