The Kimmel Center
Please join us as we celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Maguire Academy of Insurance and Risk Management and invest in the future of our industry through the creation of a transformational scholarship endowment. As part of this milestone celebration, we are seeking to raise $2 million to establish a permanent endowment that will provide full scholarships to economically challenged students pursuing careers in risk management and insurance. Together, we can help talented students graduate debt-free, access life-changing educational opportunities and enter the workforce prepared to make an impact. For two decades, the Maguire Academy has helped develop the next generation of insurance professionals, connecting students with industry leaders and preparing them for successful careers. This initiative will build upon that legacy by expanding access to education and creating new pathways for future leaders to enter and strengthen our profession. The evening will feature industry leader Thomas P. Nerney, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of USLI, whose career has been defined not only by business success but also by a deep commitment to education, mentorship and philanthropy. His dedication to creating opportunities for others reflects the spirit of this initiative and the mission of the Academy.

Thomas P. Nerney is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of USLI (United States Liability Insurance Group), a Berkshire Hathaway company specializing in underwriting innovative insurance solutions for small businesses. Since joining USLI in 1996, Tom has led the organization's continued growth while fostering a culture centered on delivering exceptional customer value through speed, ease of use and accessibility.
Prior to joining USLI, Tom served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Philadelphia Insurance Companies, where he spent 18 years as a member of the senior management team. He earned an MBA in Finance from the Haub School of Business at Saint Joseph's University and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science and Philosophy from Cabrini College. He holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation and has been recognized throughout his career for his contributions to the insurance industry, including receiving the Franklin Award from the Philadelphia Chapter of the CPCU Society and induction into the Haub School of Business Hall of Fame.
A passionate advocate for education and community service, Tom and his wife, Christine, are committed to creating opportunities for others through philanthropy. He is a founding member of A Front Row Seat to Learning and the Nerney Family Foundation, organizations dedicated to expanding access to quality education and supporting communities in need. Philadelphia Career Pathways, a current initiative of the Nerney Family Foundation, brings together organizations across Philadelphia to expand access to workforce development training and help break the cycle of poverty by connecting underserved community members with education and career opportunities.
Tom has served on numerous educational, healthcare and industry boards throughout his career. His leadership has included service with the Academy of Risk Management and Insurance at Saint Joseph's University, Main Line Health, the Nerney Leadership Institute at Cabrini University and The Institutes' Risk and Insurance Knowledge Group, among other nonprofit and educational organizations.
In addition to his professional and philanthropic endeavors, Tom has a lifelong passion for mentoring young people through athletics. A member of the Cabrini Athletic Hall of Fame, he has coached girls’ youth and high school basketball for many years and remains committed to developing leadership, teamwork and character on and off the court.
Tom and Christine live in Wayne, Pennsylvania, and enjoy spending time with their family of six children, Ryan, Christine, Brendan, Jackson, Piper and Brooklyn, and three grandchildren.
