MEDICAL AFFAIRS FELLOWSHIP

 

Location: Princeton, NJ
Recruiting: 2 Positions for a 2-Year Fellowship

The SUN Pharma Specialty Medical Affairs Fellowship is a two-year postgraduate program that provides immersive training across Medical Dermatology, Cutaneous Oncology, and Ophthalmology. Fellows gain hands-on experience in medical strategy, scientific communications, field medical affairs, evidence generation, publication planning, and Key Opinion Leader (KOL) engagement while developing the scientific and leadership skills needed for a successful career in Medical Affairs.

Medical Affairs Foundations (Year One)

  • Build foundational Medical Affairs competencies across specialty therapeutic areas
  • Gain exposure to the full product lifecycle and corporate scientific environment
  • Rotate through 3 - 4 core Medical Affairs functions: 
    • Medical Strategy & Planning – support annual medical plans, situational analyses, and evidence gap assessments
    • Medical Information & Scientific Communications – develop scientific response documents and address unsolicited HCP inquiries
    • Medical, Legal & Regulatory (MLR) Review – participate in review of promotional and non-promotional materials for 
      scientific accuracy and compliance
    • Field Medical – shadow MSLs, observe KOL interactions, learn insight generation, CRM systems, and field strategy
  • Focus on learning, observation, and supporting tactical execution
  • Develop understanding of study protocols, compliance processes, and scientific communication

Advanced Therapeutic Specialization (Year Two)

  • Select a therapeutic area of focus (Medical Dermatology, Cutaneous Oncology, or Ophthalmology)
  • Gain deeper clinical, scientific, and strategic immersion within a specialty area
  • Lead higher-level Medical Affairs activities 

Evidence Generation & Data Science 

  • Review Investigator-Initiated Trial (IIT) proposals
  • Plan and support post-hoc analyses of clinical trial data
  • Contribute to Real-World Evidence (RWE) study design

Scientific Communication & Dissemination

  • Support publication planning and congress strategy (e.g., ASCO, AAD, etc.)

Scientific Exchange

  • Establish and maintain strong scientific relationships with leading KOLs and disease experts to ensure ongoing exchange of scientific insights and emerging clinical developments
  • Collaborate with KOLs to identify unmet medical needs, evolving treatment paradigms, and key evidence gaps that can inform medical strategy and future research initiatives 
  • Active participation in the scientific planning and content development of Advisory Board meetings to obtain expert 
    insights on therapeutic areas, clinical practice trends, and strategic medical questions

Product Launch Executional Excellence

  • As opportunity arises, participate in launch planning, market shaping, and disease-state education initiatives

Medical Strategy & Planning

  • Transition from supporting activities to contributing strategically and taking ownership under Medical Director mentorship
  • Develop expertise in publication strategy, advisory board development, evidence generation, and medical leadership
