Philadelphia College of Pharmacy (PCP) at Saint Joseph’s University offers a one-year PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency in conjunction with Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper University HealthCare. Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper University HealthCare has a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) that treats full-term and premature infants, only pediatric trauma center in South Jersey, pediatric emergency department, academic medical center with the largest pediatric teaching program in South Jersey (Cooper Medical School of Rowan University), and 8-bed pediatric ER, 2-bed pediatric trauma, 8-bed PICU, 35-bed level III NICU, 28-bed pediatric medical/surgical unit, and 12-bed pediatric step-down unit.

This residency further refines skills attained during a PGY1 residency, specifically skills in (1) providing direct patient care in multiple pediatric settings, (2) conducting pediatric related research, and (3) educating Doctor of Pharmacy students. Trainees will be prepared to be pediatric pharmacy specialists and academicians. The resident will participate in didactic and experiential education of Doctor of Pharmacy students while completing a teaching and learning curriculum program. Certification opportunities include: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS); Basic Life Support (BLS); BLS instructor. The resident will develop a manuscript appropriate for submission to a peer-reviewed journal.

Children’s Region Hospital at Cooper University Hospital

Most of the PGY2 resident learning experiences are offered at Cooper University Hospital (CUH) in Camden, NJ. CUH is a 635-licensed bed, not-for-profit academic medical center offering more than 75 specialty services. Philadelphia College of Pharmacy at Saint Joseph’s University

Philadelphia College of Pharmacy (PCP) at Saint Joseph’s University is the oldest college of pharmacy in the United States. Since its origin in 1821, the College has continued to be a leader in pharmacy education. Besides the flagship program, the entry-level Doctor of Pharmacy degree and pharmacy-related baccalaureate programs are offered in the areas of pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacology and toxicology. The PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Resident will be required to complete a pediatric-related research project using effective research and project management skills. The resident will be required to prepare a manuscript appropriate for submission to a peer-reviewed journal.

The teaching responsibilities of the PGY2 resident are individualized and include precepting Doctor of Pharmacy students on introductory or advanced pharmacy practice experiences, small group facilitation and didactic lecture in Doctor of Pharmacy therapeutics or Introduction to Pediatric Pharmacy elective courses. These activities will involve approximately 400 total instructional hours per year. The PGY2 resident will also prepare and present one ACPE-accredited continuing education program.

The PGY2 resident is required to participate in a 12-month Teaching and Learning Curriculum Program (unless such a program has been completed as part of prior training).

The residency application process can be completed by contacting the residency program director. Application materials include a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, three recommendation forms, and official college transcripts. An on-site interview will also be required.

The applicant should have completed a PGY1 residency program by June 30th prior to starting the PGY2 residency. The applicant should be eligible for licensure in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
