About McNulty Scholars

The John P. McNulty Program for Leadership in Science and Mathematics is designed for highly qualified young women who are pursuing a degree in the natural sciences, mathematics or computer science. This challenging program provides full-tuition scholarships and a supportive environment to help bright young women become leaders who reach the highest echelons of the STEM professions.

McNulty Program graduates have gone on to pursue advanced degrees in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Food Science, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Chemistry, Molecular Biophysics and Neuroscience at institutions including Cornell University, Duke University, Georgetown University, University of Southern California, University of Pennsylvania, University of Illinois and Johns Hopkins University.

Legacy of John P. McNulty

Based on an intensive application review process, 18 finalists are invited to interview with our Faculty Review Committee. Of these, six Scholars will be awarded 4-year, full-tuition scholarships.

McNulty Scholars enroll in a robust four-year leadership development curriculum that includes a weekly seminar and two weekend retreats per year.  Through the curriculum, students explore their personal values and inherent strengths, and then put these to work in different contexts, such as collaboration, conflict resolution and peer mentorship. In addition, Scholars are paired with a faculty mentor and a peer mentoring group that offer support and guidance during their time at Saint Joseph's University.

McNulty students are given the opportunity to participate in the Summer Scholars Program, a 10-week, faculty-mentored research experience on campus. They also receive guidance in pursuing high-quality professional internships off campus.

The McNulty Program culminates in a faculty-mentored independent research project during the senior year.
