Supporting Students In Need Task Force
Overview
In September 2024, SJU submitted an application to the Pennsylvania Department of Education to become a "PA Hunger-Free Campus" and we earned the designation in January 2024 for work led by SJU HawkHUB.
To be eligible to earn the designation, SJU established a task force that brought together the leaders of the many programs and initiatives that support SJU students in need.
Membership
Membership in the Supporting Students In Need task force includes student leaders, faculty/administrators, and campus partners who are leading efforts to support students in need:
- Chair of the Students In Need Fund Committee (also Task Force Chair);
- Advisor & Student President HawkHUB;
- Advisor & Student Leader - Career Closet;
- Advisor & Student Leader - Operation Tampon;
- Student Senate Chair - Food and Basic Needs Committee;
- Senior Director of Tech Support (Refurbished Laptops);
- Aramark Representative (Meal Swipes);
- Manager Barnes & Noble (Textbook Scholarships);
- Chair of the Steering Committee for HawkHUB/First Generation students;
- Director of Financial Aid;
- Representative from the Office of Institutional Advancement;
- Cabinet Level Sponsor, VP for Administration and Operations
Mission
As a task force we will:
- Coordinate donation drives
- Advertise opportunities for students to connect with resources
- Apply for grants and raise funds to support Students In Need
- Produce an annual report of outcomes

To Support Students In Need
- February - Participate in our Mission Week donation drives
- March - Donate during our Day of Giving on March 19 and to Operation Tampon Drive in honor of Women’s History Month
- April - Students can donate meal swipes for student use in the Fall
- May - Students can contribute to our move-out collection drive
- September - Donate gently used professional attire and accessories to the Career Closet
- November - We will partner with the Day of Dialogue collection drives
- December - Students can donate leftover meal swipes fo student use in the Spring
