Overview

The Department of Theology and Religious Studies offers undergraduate majors in theology, and in religious studies, respectively.  Both majors focus on the academic exploration of the origins, growth and evolution of religious praxis and theological convictions. The department also offers a theology and religious studies minor, as well as a health care ethics minor. Graduates have gone on to pursue careers in law, business, higher education, journalism and other media, social work, government and non-profit organizations.

    Religion is a fundamental dimension of the human experience in today’s world. Religious Studies majors at Saint Joseph's University acquire and hone tools for the critical analysis of the major religious traditions found throughout the world.

    Theology Major Bachelor’s College of Arts and Sciences

    Theology majors at Saint Joseph's University acquire and hone tools for critical analysis of many different components of theology and religious traditions. Students also explore a deeper understanding of how the Roman Catholic tradition has interacted throughout history with Judaism, Islam and other Christian and non-Christian traditions. Majors encounter different strategies and approaches for welcoming the stranger and serving the common good.

    The health care ethics minor at Saint Joseph’s University focuses on the study and appreciation of philosophical and theological ethics.
