Commercial Solicitation on Campus

Saint Joseph’s University, as a private institution, may determine what persons and the circumstances under which they are permitted on campus for solicitation purposes. As a convenience to members of the University community, Saint Joseph’s University accords the opportunity for invitation of representatives of commercial enterprises to campus for the purpose of discussing products and services of interest.

Approved by College Council February 21, 1974

Prohibition of Credit Card Marketing To Students

Prohibited Activity

The advertising, marketing, or merchandising of credit cards directed at students is prohibited.

Third party vendors, including, but not limited to, banks and credit unions, may not use campus facilities to further credit card marketing tactics directed at students. This includes, but is not limited to, tabling, distributing, and/or posting fliers, posters, signs, applications, or other marketing materials in any campus facilities. The University’s e-mail system, web pages, or any other University electronic communication systems may not be used to advertise or market credit cards to students.

Third party vendors are also prohibited from offering gifts, financial support, goods, or services to any University staff member, faculty member, or student organization in exchange for allowing the vendor to advertise or market credit cards to students. Further, third party vendors are prohibited from offering any gifts to students in exchange for completing a credit card application.

Any third party vendors such as banks, credit unions, or similar commercial entities who are permitted to be on-campus are prohibited from marketing to and/or soliciting students for the purposes of providing credit card or other loan applications.

Exclusions

  1. Advertisements contained within external newspapers, magazines, and other similar publications.
  2. Advertising, marketing, or merchandising of alumni affinity credit card offers directed to alumni who have graduated from the University. This includes use of the University’s e-mail system and webpages, provided that the electronic communications and web pages are limited to and specifically directed to alumni.

Sanctions

Any third party vendor who intentionally, knowingly, and/or materially violates this [policy] may be subject to sanctions depending on the nature and extent of the violation. Sanctions may include, but are not limited to, removal from campus(es) and denial of access to campus(es).

Any student, staff member, or faculty member who intentionally, knowingly, and/or materially violates this policy may be subject to disciplinary action.
