The following can help you to identify which type of resources is appropriate for the student’s level of distress.
Important Resources
At Saint Joseph's University, students in Philadelphia and Lancaster have access to vital resources for their well-being. The Office of Public Safety maintains a secure environment, while Counseling and Psychological Services offers confidential mental health support. The Student Health Center addresses physical health needs, promoting overall wellness. The Student Support and Well-being office connects students with various resources for holistic support. The Office of Title IX and Equity Compliance helps students navigate sexual misconduct issues and bias incidents, ensuring their rights are upheld. Lastly, Community Standards promote a safe, respectful campus through behavioral expectations, fostering an inclusive environment for all students.
The safety and security of all who live, work and visit Saint Joseph's University are of paramount concern to the entire University community. The primary focus of the Office of Public Safety and Security (OPSS) is to provide the highest, reasonable level of security on our nearly 200-acre campus locations. Our school community as a whole share the responsibility of creating a safe and secure campus. During the school year, crime prevention and security awareness initiatives are implemented. This shared responsibility is a key factor to having a safe learning environment and, for that reason, members of the University are encouraged to accurately and promptly report all crimes to the Office of Public Safety and Security and local law enforcement agency.
Counseling and Psychological Services, located at Hawk Hill in Merion Gardens, at the University City location in Whitecar Hall, and in the Lancaster location in the Health and Wellness Suite, promotes the psychological well-being of Saint Joseph’s University students through the provision of a variety of therapeutic interventions and outreach programs. The delivery of these services is framed by “transformative learning goals” and occurs within a campus climate that supports the whole person; academically, socially, physically and spiritually.
The Student Health Center subscribes to a definition of health that includes the attainment, maintenance and lifelong commitment to an optimum level of wellness. This philosophy is rooted in the Jesuit educational tradition in which there is integration of learning with the development of the person.
Student Support & Well-being offers individual support, guidance and referral to helpful resources for all students during critical incidents and difficult situations. Our staff manage outreach and follow-up care for students who are experiencing crisis or distress that impacts their social, personal, and/or academic stability. Focused on the nine dimensions of well-being, our team also provides educational opportunities and individual support for students to develop strategies to make healthy choices and to care for themselves and others in a holistic way.

The Office of Community Standards supports the University’s Catholic and Jesuit mission through the education and administration of policies and expectations designed to promote a safe, respectful, inclusive and welcoming environment, in which all students can learn, grow and become moral leaders in their communities. The Office of Community Standards encourages all students to reflect on what it means to be a Hawk, on and off-campus, and understand the impact and harm their individual decisions and actions can have on others.
