After your SCHOLARS application is submitted, we will reach out to schedule an interview. Interviews will last 15-20 minutes and will take place on November 7-10. Candidates will receive an offer letter for the SCHOLARS position in their email on Friday, November 11. Training for new SCHOLARS who will begin working in the Spring 2023 semester will take place on December 6-8.

Upon hiring, the SCHOLARS job offer is contingent upon the following:
- Clearance of Pennsylvania State Criminal History Record (Act 34)
- Clearance of Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 51)
- Clearance of Federal FBI Criminal History Fingerprint Report
- TB Skin Test
- Submission of all Student Worker/Federal Work-Study Paperwork to the Saint Joseph's University Human Resources Department
Please note the FBI Criminal History Fingerprint Report results arrive in the mail about one month after your fingerprints are taken. SCHOLARS cannot work in any programs until all their clearances are submitted, so it is in your best interest to schedule a fingerprinting session as soon as possible. The Kinney Center will be holding a fingerprint session on Thursday, November 17 for new SCHOLARS to ensure the results arrive prior to the start of the spring semester.

The Kinney Center holds programming year-round for individuals across the lifespan, and SCHOLARS have the chance to work across all of the Kinney Center's programs throughout their college career. Programming is held during the day and in some evenings. SCHOLARS benefit from flexible scheduling. The programs available to work are:
- Day Program (Transitional and Adult)
- Transitional and Adult Social Skills
- Youth Social Skills
- ASPIRE College Support
- Camp Kinney

SCHOLARS must be able to work at least one program and work for at least four hours each week. SCHOLARS can work one evening program, split time in the Day Program, or be a Peer Mentor to an ASPIRE student to satisfy this requirement. SCHOLARS are also encouraged to work in Camp Kinney during the summer; this is an eight-week commitment Monday through Thursday from 9 AM-4 PM. SCHOLARS may also work more hours if they would like to.

Of course! Students who are studying abroad, student teaching, or doing a fieldwork placement can still be SCHOLARS and are welcome to return to the Kinney Center upon their return.

Yes, the Kinney SCHOLARS position can be used to fulfill internship requirements for most programs! Students who are enrolled in Intro to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ABA 100) as a service learning course work as ASPIRE Peer Mentors on campus for their service placement. Psychology majors and minors can use the SCHOLARS position for internship credit for PSY 390 or PSY 391. Please speak with your advisor or internship coordinator in regard to your internship's specific requirements.
