The Cura Collective
Overview
The Cura Collective at Saint Joseph's University works to create a campus community in which everyone can learn, live, and work in an environment that supports SJU’s commitment to creating an educational environment of inclusiveness. In the spirit of cura personalis, the Cura Center focuses on social justice through an intersectional lens and strives to be an empowering space for conversation, collaboration, education, and resources.
Who We Are
Serve, Support, Educate, Empower
The Cura Center aims to Serve, Support, Educate, Empower our University community through a variety of resources and programming. All are welcome in the Cura Center’s gender-inclusive space, where we are committed to supporting the needs of our students, employees, and alumni. We strive to cultivate an inclusive environment in which everyone can thrive and build community with others.
What We Do
We serve as SJU’s umbrella for gender-inclusive programs and resources, and the Cura Collective team organizes events and social justice initiatives across the University that educate the campus community. Home to the Career Closet and Operation Tampon, the Cura Collective seeks to provide resources for the SJU community, often in partnership with other University organizations and offices. Our purpose is to provide a diversified experience with an eye towards social justice leadership in the areas of gender equity and justice. Everyone is invited to visit the Cura Collective’s gender-inclusive space to study, browse the Career Closet, or spend time with others.
The Career Closet
The Career Closet provides new and gently used inclusive, profession-related clothing, accessories, shoes, and outerwear free of charge to all members of the Saint Joseph's University community. We embrace the philosophy of “take what you need, and give what you can” to provide access to attire needed for interviews, events, internships, and jobs.
The Career Closet consists of two rooms on the second floor of Hawk Hill’s Cura Collective: one for women’s sizing and one for men’s sizing. Both rooms have numerous items in a variety of categories such as suits, jackets, pants, shirts, tops, dresses, shoes, ties, and other accessories. The Career Closet is resourced by generous donations from those within and beyond the SJU community. Donations can be dropped off at the Cura Collective or through our Target Wishlist.
Operation Tampon
Cura Personalis. Period.
Operation Tampon provides free period products (pads, tampons, and liners) to the students, staff, and faculty of the SJU community. The Cura Collective headquarters and administers Operation Tampon by distributing products in baskets, located in several women’s and all gender bathrooms across all three campus locations. Supported by HawkHUB, Operation Tampon relies on generous donations from those within and beyond to the SJU community to refill the bins on a weekly basis. Donations can be dropped off at the Cura Collective or through our Amazon Wishlist.
