Junior Jomaria Furicchia, BS ’27, a criminal justice major, is spending her summer as a legal intern at Broscius, Fischer & Zaiter, LLC, where she works alongside attorneys on a variety of legal matters. Through her coursework at Saint Joseph’s and hands-on experience at the firm, Furicchia has gained insight into legal research, case preparation, client interactions and the day-to-day operations of a law firm. By reviewing case files, contracts, court documents and evidence, she has developed a deeper understanding of the legal profession while building professional relationships and practical skills that will support her future career goals.

The Day-to-Day:
Every day is a little different depending on what the attorneys are working on. Most often, I review case files, contracts, court documents and evidence; conduct legal research; sit in on meetings; and assist with whatever projects need to be completed. I also have the opportunity to attend court hearings, which has given me valuable insight into courtroom procedures and how cases are argued in practice.
It's 10 a.m. on a workday, what are you up to:
Usually reading through a case file, reviewing evidence, or discussing a legal issue with one of the attorneys or paralegals while taking notes and learning as much as possible.
Go-to snack or drink that gets you through the day:
A black coffee or a Redbull, especially on days when I’m reading lengthy case materials.
Law school and legal careers require much more than knowing the law. Communication, attention to detail and the ability to learn quickly are just as important. Every case is different, so not being afraid to ask questions and staying curious can help you grow tremendously

My “I nailed it” moment:
While reviewing evidence for the firm’s longest open ongoing case, I found a key piece of evidence that helped move the case forward. It was rewarding to know that, even as an intern, I was able to make a meaningful contribution to an important case.
Favorite part of your role:
Getting exposure to real cases and seeing how attorneys think through problems, interact with clients and develop legal strategies.
Fit check:
Office days are usually dress pants, a blouse and comfortable flats. Court days mean a blazer, dress pants and full professional attire.
Tips for the next intern:
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Even if you don’t know much at first, showing initiative, being dependable and staying curious will help you learn more than you expect.
Fun/interesting collaborations:
I can’t talk about any clients or cases, but getting to observe court proceedings has been one of the coolest parts of my internship. Watching attorneys passionately advocate for their clients and think on their feet in the courtroom has been incredibly impressive, and it’s made me even more excited to pursue a career in law.
