Tennis Student-Athletes Earn ITA Scholar-Athlete Honors

Sixteen members of the 2022-23 Saint Joseph's men's and women's tennis teams, including all 10 members of the women's team, have earned Scholar-Athlete honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the organization announced on Monday.

In addition, both squads earned All-Academic Team recognition as well.

The entire women's roster was honored by the ITA for its academic achievement, with seniors Ireland AmatoSophia AmatoEmily ElliottAnna Kirk, and Stow Weiss; juniors Fabiana Tort-Umpierre and Kirsten Wijnsema; sophomores Charlotte Kordonowy and Ana Ocasio; and freshman Olivia Slate earning Scholar-Athlete accolades.

On the men's side, graduate students Nassim FenjiroOscar Serra, and Alejandro Vedri were joined on the list by sophomore Eli Gan-Dy and freshmen John Butler and Inigo Diaz.

In order to be recognized as an ITA Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must be a varsity letterwinner and achieve at least a 3.5 grade point average over the course of the academic year. To qualify for All-Academic Team status, a squad must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better for the year.
