About SJU Reading Revolution Corps

The SJU Reading Revolution Corps offers a paid tutoring opportunity exclusively for Saint Joseph’s University students. This initiative provides meaningful engagement with the local community by supporting kindergarten through second-grade students in developing critical early literacy skills.

Tutors implement a structured intervention program, Reading Ready, which focuses on foundational reading components such as phonemic awareness, letter-sound correspondence, and decoding. Through this evidence-based approach, tutors play a vital role in helping young learners build the skills necessary for reading success.

The program features ten multi-modal lessons that target the foundational skills essential for word reading, including letter-sound correspondence, phonemic awareness, and phonics. Designed as a targeted intervention, Reading Ready supports striving readers from Kindergarten to second grade, helping them build the skills necessary to become confident and accurate decoders.
