The University has contracted with MarchingOrder, a company that provides commencement support for both live, on-ground and virtual ceremonies. During the conferral of degrees on May 22, each student will have an individualized virtual card with their name, degree, photo and a message or quote. All student submissions will be approved for consistency. On May 22, you will be able to share these cards on your social media, and others will be able to interact with your card to congratulate you.
MARCHINGORDER IS NOW CLOSED. ADDITIONAL REQUESTS ARE NO LONGER ABLE TO BE ACCOMMODATED.
Please note that Friday, May 7, was the last day graduates were able to reserve guest tickets for the Commencement ceremony. MARCHINGORDER IS NOW CLOSED. ADDITIONAL REQUESTS FOR TICKETS ARE NO LONGER ABLE TO BE ACCOMMODATED. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Commencement Day and GradPasses
On Commencement day, all graduates will need to arrive at Curran Field with their GradPass from MarchingOrder printed in hand or on their phones. THIS IS YOUR TICKET TO ENTER THE CEREMONY.
Graduates will be seated within the section assigned to their school or college. When it is time to confer degrees, graduates will cross the stage and show their GradPass, which will allow names to be called and students' MarchingOrder slides to be projected to the screens for the audience to see. HAVE YOUR GRADPASS OUT AND READY TO BE SCANNED AS YOU PROCESS TOWARD THE STAGE.
Regalia, Photos and More
Did you miss the Graduate Salute? There are still opportunities to purchase your regalia, schedule your graduation portrait, order your class ring and more.
If you were unable to attend the Graduate Salute and portrait makeup sessions, Legacy will offer in-studio photo sessions on Monday, May 3, 2021. Graduates can sign up through the scheduling link by selecting May 3.
For graduates who are unable to schedule a portrait session with Legacy Photographics but would like a similar style photo, the portraits are taken from the waist up in regalia against a blue-gray background.
Cap and Gowns
Cap and gowns are available for purchase in the Saint Joseph’s University Bookstore. If you are unable to purchase your regalia in person, you may do so online here. Graduates should order their regalia by May 7 to ensure it arrives in time for Commencement on May 22.
Class Rings, Announcements and Diploma Frames
Class rings, graduation announcements and diploma frames are also available for purchase in the University Bookstore. Graduates can also purchase their ring, announcements or frame online. Shipping time for class rings is approximately six to eight weeks.

Make Your Senior Gift
While senior year might feel full of “lasts,” it also comes with exciting new “firsts” and the Senior Gift is one of them! It’s an SJU tradition for members of the senior class to contribute the dollar equivalent of their class — in this case, $20.21 — to support future Hawks. This opportunity welcomes you to join the thousands of alumni who give back every year.
Hawks share a collective desire to give back — to connect our talents to need, our skills to solutions and our passions to purpose. By making a gift to the Saint Joseph’s Fund (or any other area of your choice), you’re connecting future students to the first-class education you received here on Hawk Hill.
Why should I give?
- To live out SJU’s mission as an engaged citizen.
- To gain access to unique opportunities and exclusive events just for seniors.
- To honor tradition - every graduating class has raised money to support the SJU community in some way. THWND!
How do I give?
Give online today. A few dollars can make a huge impact! The Senior Class Connections (SCC) committee is responsible for leading this initiative. Follow SJU Alumni Association on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn and never miss out on events or opportunities to get involved.
Approximately six weeks after Commencement, you will receive your diploma through the mail. It is delivered to the address you selected when you applied to graduate. Your diploma is 20 inches wide and 16 inches high.
All Saint Joseph’s University diplomas are presented in Latin. University life is steeped in tradition. Latin diplomas connect higher education to the Italian Renaissance when education was based on the study of Latin and Greek. This classical learning informed the founding of most American colleges in the 18th and 19th-centuries and that is the reason that Latin diplomas are still awarded at so many universities today. The literary works of classical scholars were not only expected to produce eloquence in students but also to inculcate an ideal of service to the common good. The contemporary Jesuit mantra that encourages students to grow to be "Men and Women for Others" derives from this tradition and informs the mission of Saint Joseph's University to this day. So as we look to the future, traditions remind us of our common heritage and foundational principles.
