Garrett Lyons has been selected to the 2022 Academic All-District Men's Soccer Team, announced by the College Sports Communicators.

The 2022 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA — for each gender.

Lyons, a finance major, was also awarded Atlantic 10 All-Academic honors earlier this season, having recorded a cumulative GPA of 3.82 in his collegiate career.

Selected team captain prior to the season, Lyons contributed on both ends of the pitch despite playing every minute of the season for the Hawks at center back. The Silver Spring, Md. native scored twice on the year, adding a team-high five assists for a tied team-best nine points. Lyons also helped record five shutouts on the year, earning Second Team All-Atlantic 10 plaudits as voted on by the 14 head coaches in the conference.

The Hawks finished the season with one of the stingiest defenses in program history, large in part from Lyons' play in defense. SJU finished 2-2-4 in conference play, one point shy of a postseason berth. In the eight conference games, the Hawks conceded just six goals to tie joint-lowest amongst A-10 teams and marked the best defensive record in conference play in program history. The two defeats also marked the fewest in Atlantic 10 action for the Hawks, recording the first back-to-back clean sheet performance against conference opponents.
