Ben Steiger, BS ’26, prepared for a career in finance as a summer analyst at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. The finance and business intelligence and analytics double major learned the tricks of the trade by working alongside bankers and assisting on long-term projects during his time at the Philadelphia office.

The Role:

Commercial Banking Summer Analyst, J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.

Describe your internship in three words:

Enriching, Analytical, Collaborative

The Day-to-Day:

A typical day for a summer analyst involves internal networking through coffee chats, supporting bankers with credit and treasury analysis across various deals, and working on individual projects assigned throughout the internship.

Go-to snack or drink that gets you through the day:

Black coffee and blueberries!

My β€œI nailed it” moment:

I was initially tasked with supporting a credit analyst on a deal that exceeded my comfort level. Through diligence and learning on the fly, I was ultimately able to contribute meaningfully to the analysis, collaborate with the broader credit team, and help present our projections. Seeing my technical understanding grow in real time was extremely rewarding.

Favorite part of your role:

I love the combination of technical analysis with communication and presentation skills.

Tips for the next intern:

Always go into a meeting with a thoughtful question, be a sponge and don't be afraid to get something wrong.
